Statement

I am inspired by structural forms, whether it be in architecture or within nature. I consider my style to be decorative, intricate and thought provoking, which is also what I look for in other artist’s work.

Design to me is a reaction to environment and experiences, no matter how monumental or insignificant, any experience affects the way you think or act. Everyday life has an effect on your emotions, which will inevitably affect the way you handle your media, whether it be ceramic, metal, fabric or paint.

The Isle of Man will always influence my work, as I was born and grew up there. It will not necessarily be influenced directly (using images such as the three legs) but more through ideas taken from the landscapes, culture and inspiration from the artists that have come from the Island such as Archibald Knox, William Hoggatt and Norman Sayle to name a few.

I began my three year course at Hope University in 2010 after achieving a triple distinction grade at the Isle of Man College where I earnt myself a National Diploma in Art and Design after two years of study. I really enjoyed my time at College and the facilities and tutors were amazing. - I am now in my third and final year at University and things are a lot more challenging.
After studying Ceramics, Computer Aided Design, Textiles and Metal in my first year, in 2011 I specialised in Textiles and Metal as I found I enjoyed these areas most and was excited to see what they had to offer, and their new techniques I was eager to learn about.

However, even though I have specialised in two material areas I do still like to use C.A.D, I have always had an interest in using Photoshop especially - ever since I was quite young, as my Mother was a website designer and photographer, so I believe she inspired me to begin learning about Photoshop. I do enjoy using C.A.D and it is really useful within Textiles and Metal as it helps me visualise my designs before making.
